The Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap is saving the post office, one postcard at a time! Sign up for the swap closed this week with just over 300 artists signed up. I’m so excited to see the postcards from all over the world! So far, 41 envelopes have arrived from participants in 7 countries. Many more are on their way, if the notes in the Facebook group are any indication!
This week brought some gorgeous art in the mail. My favorite is this one, from Amanda, a calligrapher in Washington. Is that calligraphy not the most beautiful thing ever?
She’s the one who inspired my leading line, since she wrote “Saving the USPO one postcard at a time” on her beautifully wrapped postcards. I hated to open them, for fear of messing up her work! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a link for Amanda to share more of her work so you’ll just have to enjoy these photos.
Jane from California (again, no link, sorry!!) created a fun little mixed media piece on her envelope. I’ll share a tip I learned by observing what she did: Cover your mixed media envelope creations with clear packing tape, then the layers won’t peel off as it goes through the mail. Thanks Jane!
This week brought the first snail in the mail! This fun envelope zentangle is from Stacie in Oklahoma. Don’t we all love snail mail?
Finally, I’ll share a bit of my art for the week, for Paint Party Friday. I’m working on two paintings in shades of yellow and green. Last week I shared the first, and here’s the second work in progress. I’m actually working pretty exclusively on this one now, since I know where it’s going. I love it when that happens!

Thanks, Kat, for posting my envelope! (No, I don’t have a blog yet…!) but I love seeing everyone’s art and my art on your site! Love the postcard swap!
Jane
Glad to see my snail mail arrived safe and sound 🙂 LOL
I hadn’t doodled in a very long time and it mail me laugh that I had so much fun decorating an envelope!
As a postal worker I thank you for that!!
Good Tip about the packing tape on mixed media, we see so much ruined stuff, because the machines belts are so tight, it really leaves very little wiggle room.
Sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic swap! Love your painting and the other works of art coming in the mail. How exciting!
The calligraphy is beautiful indeed! And I like the bird envelope too! You’re going to have some excitement in the coming days, that’s for sure! Patsy from HeARTworks and papemelroti
What beautiful postcard art! That definitely looks like a fun swap. I like your green swirly circles so far. You’re getting some beautiful colors and textures.
That ‘evelop’ is awesome. the bird is cute and your painting is quite wonderful! I LOVE GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was excited to get mine sent off to you, and can’t wait for the fun to begin… so pleased so many have signed up, though worried for how much work that will be … hope it doesn’t encroach on your creative time too badly…xx
Wow, I would love to be your mailbox getting those treasures. Will be interesting to see where you go with the painting, now you know where it is going…and yes, that is a very good feeling. 🙂
All of them are gorgeous. I love the fist one, the calligraphy it’s beautiful indeed! I like what I see in your new work, I can’t wait to see the end result. Have a great day!
Nora

Happy PPF!

I love all these works, including the envelopes. Blessings, Janet PPF
This mail swap really is the coolest project! It’s fascinating to see what everyone’s coming up with.
Also good luck with the bubbly piece–it’s looking good so far.
Hi I love the colors and circles in your current work.
What is this postcard thing all about? Sounds like you are going to have an avalanche of mail coming in! but how fun to see work from around the world. but then what do you do with them all?
Thanks Gloria! Circles seem to be my thing lately. The Liberate Your Art postcard swap is a worldwide swap. People send me 5 postcards with their art printed on them, I swap them out and they receive 6 in the mail: 5 from other participants and 1 from me! This is the second year I’ve done this swap. Sign up is closed for this year, since we are nearly the swap deadline for participation.
Thanks for helping to save my job. We enjoy seeing the artistry that comes through the mail. In order for these not to be damaged in our machines, please do the following: make sure the piece does not have thick or chunky things in or on the outside of it, and don’t tape over the stamp. Keep the art coming.
the post cards are a great idea! I’m loving your painting so far too!
What a joy to see these! Looking forward to seeing more of your treasures!!
What a fun and inspiring post! I haven’t decorated an envelope in some time so I’m looking forward to getting my packet together for the Art Swap and busting out my supplies.
I LOVE the examples you’ve shared here…. is the first envelope also hand-done calligraphy on the back of the envelope too? (the part with the gold fill) It’s exquisite!
The mix-media collaged birdie is fun too; my favorite touch is the sheet music paper that was used for the flower’s leaves.
Another hint for mailing artsy envelopes is to also cover the mailing and return addresses with clear tape so that the writing is protected. I live in a rainy town and ink is known to smear! And to second what another wrote, make sure the stamps are uncovered.
Many Blessings, Dewi
Yes, that one is all hand-done calligraphy. It’s amazing! Thanks for sharing more tips – I’ll have to add them to my email next year.
What beautiful calligraphy! They all look just wonderful. I read about the postcard swap when I returned from my holiday, and was unfortunately one day too late to sign up. Maybe next year. Love the green of your painting, and the circles!
