The Simplicity of Intention

When I went in search of beauty on Saturday, I found it. I rediscovered the beauty of flowers against warm stone. I revisited a time and a place from a couple of years ago. I recreated a feeling of peaceful exploration through my images from Korkula. It was a joy.

Is this an example of intention? I wanted beauty. I intended beauty. I found beauty. It seems too simple, but maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s the perfect example, showing that intention is not hard. It just is. Wherever we set our attention, wherever we place our thoughts, we develop intention. When we switch it around, putting intention first, it changes the dynamic. Our thoughts and attention follow.

The concept of “intention” has been coming up for me a lot lately. It’s as if there is a cosmic neon sign flashing, “Start here.” This example tells me maybe I’ve been struggling too hard with it. It really is this simple: Intend beauty. Find it.

I sense there is more for me around intention… things like not trying to control outcomes, and being open to what comes. But this is enough for today. I’m going to keep it simple, and enjoy the beauty I found.

    Kat this is beautiful!

The context adds to the beauty and sets a stage for the flowers. My eyes travel into the scene, and I’m left wondering and wanting to walk the stone pathway.

Recently I’ve been thinking through the concept of simplicity in regards to doing what we love and what seems almost too easy. Why is it that we don’t feel like we’ve accomplished something unless we’ve had to labor over it? How often does what came simply and easily to us receive the most response from others? And then we brush it off with, “It was nothing.” Maybe our intention is the key.

Thanks for the beauty and the thoughts.

I love this concept – stating your desires (after you figure out what they are, of course) and then taking action to make it a reality.

LOL, sometimes figuring out what they are is the hardest part…

Lovely photos. The pink against the stone is wonderful. Wonderful thoughts as well.

This word has been popping up for me as well; sometimes we really make things difficult for ourselves, don’t we? This picture is one of my all time favorites, and I have always loved your work!

Wow, an all-time favorite! Thanks Paula! And I agree – we often make things more difficult than they need to be.

This is so beautiful! And I’m sure there are many people who pass by there and never notice it. Your words are beautiful too.

What strikes me about this photo is how much pleasure everyone who sees it gets from this narrow planting space filled with pots of flowers. What if its owner had decided it was too small to bother with? It’s amazing what can happen if we just use what we have. It’s a lovely photo, Kat. I like it very much too.

Great observation on making do with what we have. Thanks Lee!

These are beautiful images Kat. I love the contrast of the softness of the flowers and the hardness of the stone walk and walls. Love the pink!
Intention is such a big word. It’s something I need to work with.

Thanks Laurie! Don’t let the idea of intention overwhelm you. It really is as simple as choosing how you want to feel, and then letting that guide your path.
