Settled In

There is nothing like a few days in a row off with no travel plans to create some space for finishing home projects. With the arrival of the quilt from my Mom I finally had the final ingredient, some leftover fabric she sent along, to get me motivated to finish up the decoration of my studio.

I created a few pillows with the fabric for my window seat and reading chair. The long skinny pillows are “cat friendly” reading pillows. I like a pillow on my lap when I read to hold the book but then Stevie the cat won’t sit on my lap, he doesn’t like to be crowded, so I use a skinny pillow to suit both our needs.

I’m quite happy with how the pillows turned out. How nice of Stevie to pop into the scene as I was taking pictures early this morning.

The pillow project was preceded with finishing another project that had been covering my work desk for a couple of months. I was making some tags to hang from the “dream” placard on my wall, so I finished those up to make room for my sewing machine. Ahhh, now it’s all clean.

I like how it’s looking, but now I “see” all of my painting stuff, since it’s not lost in the mess that was my work table. I haven’t painted in MONTHS, the same canvas has been sitting on my easel for a while. Maybe now I’ll get on to painting again. Maybe not. At any rate, it’s waiting there for me when I get to it.

And finally, I thought I would capture where I spend most of my time in this room… at my computer desk. It’s not the pretty part of the room, by any means, but it’s “home” for me. I love my magnet boards for inspiration and having all of my notes accessible. My son’s computer is right next to mine, on the left. He got the old computer when I got a new one this July. I was tired of the constant negotiation with him over computer time.

I’m now finished with my current plans for studio decoration. I guess this means I’m all settled in!

What a gorgeous workspace Kat… but far too tidy. MIne looks like a bomb hit it. You’ve inspired me to have a cleanup.

Well, there’s been a bit of a cleanup the last few days and even more so for the pictures. Normally it is a bit more messy!

This all looks absolutely wonderful! I had to chuckle about the skinny pillow. Having a cat, I totally understand. And then sharing desk space with your son. Seems like women are always sharing space–LOL! 😉 You can’t help but be creative in this space. 🙂

Yes, you know it. The cat rules the house. 🙂 Stevie is also a bit pickier than just the pillow… If I want him to sit on my lap I have to have my feet up with a quilt on my lap, even in the heat of summer!

Kat, you’ve done a beautiful job on your studio. Not only is it a place to BE creative, but it’s a place already filled with your creativity. Your mom’s quilt and the matching pillows are the perfect touches of comfort. I know you’re going to be spending many happy hours there, and I can’t wait to see what comes out of it!

Your pussy cat looks like mine. Is he/she a Russian Blue?

I have no idea what kind of cat Stevie is, mostly a domestic mix. We think maybe part Siamese because of his tips and blue eyes, and he’s very “talkative” when he wants something. 🙂

Oh Kat, what a beautiful space. I love the colors. And I have to admit I’m a little jealous–especially of your window seat. Although I don’t have that possibility, I could certainly do more to make my space welcoming, using some bright fabric. An inspiration.

Yes! Some bright fabric could make all the difference! Be sure to share if you spruce things up. 🙂

Isn’t that seat great? I’ve always wanted to figure out a window seat for that window. We used to have a play table there and Brandon would play trains. But the play table is outgrown and I finally got my dream of a window seat.

What a lovely studio Kat and your cushions are brilliant. I’m so glad Stevie is well catered for! I love the tags you made – so colourful and bright. You have the same little wooden three drawer box on your desk that I have! I can’t believe how tidy your studio is – I hate to think what you’d make of my messy place 🙂

Love seeing this space and completely envious of your (and Stevie’s) window seat. It’s all about the cat with the pillows, huh? I remember the first pic you posted of this room with a big red wall and window. Love how it’s turned out. I keep thinking I should turn my dining room into a place for creating….eating will have to take place somewhere else though.
    Have a great day Kat.
PS…I like this elongated version of your post rather than having to push “more” to read the whole thing. I know you didn’t ask….and I should MYOB, but feedback is good, right?

Eating isn’t as important as creating, is it? You should totally convert your dining room. LOL! My studio is supposed to be a living room. Well, I guess it is a “living” room – appropriate to how I want to live.

Interesting comment on seeing the elongated version, I do appreciate the feedback – the “Read More” button in the blog is part of the theme the site is built on and I didn’t know it could be changed. I wonder what happened? I agree with you, I would prefer the whole blog post to be visible too. It’s one of the compromises I had to make with this site, which I otherwise love. Let me know if it stays this way for you, I don’t see it that way when I look at the site, and I’d like to figure out if I can make that change permanent.

Wow, Kat… this really looks super. Such a difference from the maroon colored walls when you moved in. Nice work. Looks like you will get lots done there.
    Happy 2012!!
