Heaven, I’m in heaven…
Yesterday was a glorious texture day! A couple of weeks ago my friend Julie emailed me, asking if I wanted to go for a photo walk. After coordinating a bit, we settled on yesterday morning. We got out early, just as the morning sun was burning off the fog, and headed to the small town of Philomath. This little town of 5 or 6 thousand is a couple of miles from where I live. We drive through it all the time to head to the Coast and I always say, “I need to come back here and photograph.” So glad I did!
I realized as we were walking around I’ve traded in the stone and stucco of Italy for the brick, wood and corrugated metal of small town USA, but it’s texture all the same. I’m still looking for the “real life still life” scenes that catch my eye. The image above of the bucket is my favorite of the day. The colors and textures are perfect, and that lovely morning light! Heaven.
Julie and I ended our photo walk with a coffee and a chai to warm up, and agreed we need to do this more often. It was so much fun to go out with another photographer! We can’t wait to share the photos and see what we each captured, the differences in our point of view. I loved capturing her in action as well. Oh, the things we photographers do.
But wait! There’s more! I have a bit of other news today, the winner of the set of “Texture” postcards from the Exploring with a Camera: Found Texture link up is… Dina of 4 Lettre Words! Dina is a regular participant in Exploring with a Camera and Ashley Sisk‘s Scavenger Hunt Sunday and I’m excited to send these to her. Thanks to all of you for your participation! Even though our link up on texture is over, I hope you continue to seek texture. You know I will!

What a wonderful day!! I’m looking forward to seeing more!! Absolutely love that last shot!! I seem to find myself in the dirt though!!
What a fun morning! I love seeing you pictures. That building was magnificent!
Good morning Kat,
I love the color harmony and of course, the texture that you’ve captured in these images! Pretty strange that rust and old metal can look delicious!
Also, thanks so much for your support and kind words for my Mortal Muse guest post yesterday. I really appreciate both!
Happy weekend to you,
Anna
Oh Kat – I simply love that bucket against the corrugated metal wall – rust and textures and lines, oh my!
The bucket photo is gorgeous, the colors are yummy and the texture is really nice. I love the way you cropped it. Oh, and that lying on the sidewalk taking a picture – that could be me.
This is something I really miss – going on a photo walk with another photographer. Perhaps one day… (most of my friends here are non-photographers).
I love that bucket, Kat…and I’m sooooo excited to get my postcards!
I love how you captured her in the moment lying on the ground to get her shot.!
i always adore looking at your photos, kat! those rainbow flowers on your homepage are just amazing….and the more i look around your blog and flickr page…well, i just love them all!
best wishes to you!

Thanks so much Juliette! It’s so nice to have you come by and visit.
What gorgeous warm textures. Love the picture of your photog friend!
It sounds and looks like you had a wonderful time taking pictures with your friend. I love how you captured her in action.
My sister, brother-in-law, husband and I spent a week visiting and taking pictures. Taking pictures together was something we had never done before but we had a wonderful time and I know we will do it as often as possible.
Kat,
I just love this new site, and have spent some lovely time with my coffee this morning looking around. Your photography is always inspiring! My daughter is moving to Oregon on Tuesday, so perhaps someday we’ll be able to meet in person. I would love to spend a few hour with you and our cameras! I miss our connection on El Foto, and am struggling to keep up with blogging as there is so much going on in our family life right now, but I’ll be back to visit soon!
Karen
What a great idea to take a photo walk – I love your beautiful texture shots!
How fun! I love days like that. Sounds like you two had a wonderful time and some great shots to boot! 😉
Now thats the sign of a great photographer = willing to get dirty. lol
O what a perfect day!
You make such wonderful suggestions for us to try, so it is fantastic that you are finding time to do the same for yourself. Your new blog would have taken more time than any of us could imagine…but it is in the past tense, working beautifully and just a lovely place to visit. I hope your life feels a bit more settled now. I fully understand the adjustment from photographing “abroad” to our own home towns….I look and look and find it hard to get totally involved in what is around me….other than seasons, that is beautiful beyond description.
You and I and many others can just count ourselves fortunate to have had many diverse cultures, people, landscapes to discover. But I know that here in the states it is no less….it is all about capturing the emotion and tone and changing our perspective and expectations.
Thank you once more for all the effort you go to to make your classes, ideas,, suggestions, personal photographs something to inspire us and make us better photographers. Smiles: Sharon
Thank you so much Sharon! I do all of this because I love it, and I feel lucky that it inspires you too.
How about a Kat Eye Photowalk?
All of us walking for a set time on the same pre-arranged day then posting our photographs from our walk to a share. Would be a lovely way to connect for those who don’t have photo buddies.
I would organise it on my blog but I don’t have enough followers! (yet :o)
Helen
What an awesome idea Helen! Let’s do it! Want to help me pick a day? 🙂
I love a good photo walk. The picture of her on the ground getting a shot shows just how dedicated you were to this photo walk. That is great!
love this post Kat
I also wanted to thank you for sending me the pistcards throughout my journey the last 4 months – loved getting them
so looking forward to the next postcard swap
