We spent the weekend unplugged from the Internet and plugged in to the family at our favorite spot on the coast, Washburne State Park. We hiked, we walked on the beach, we played, we made photographs. It was a wonderful break from our normal lives. We need to do this more often!
Enjoy a few pics from the area, all edited in Stackables with a formula I created called “Heceta.” It works great on landscapes!
UPDATE 3-June-15: If you would like the “Heceta” formula for your own use, do the following:
1. Make sure the Stackables app is installed on your iOS device.
2. On your iOS device, download the formula file from this link. (This is a Dropbox link, and you may be prompted to save the file to your Dropbox account, if you have one. Go ahead and save it to your Dropbox and then download from there.)
3. When you go to download or open the file, use “Open in…” and choose the “Open in Stackables” option.
4. Stackables will open and ask if you want to import the formula, click “Import.”
5. To use the formula, load a photo and then go to Favorite Formulas (the ones with a heart!). You will see the “Heceta” formula there. Have fun!!
The bridge at Heceta Head beach. Oregon has the best bridges!
Zoey loves fetching on the beach.
I forget we have this amazing place, the Oregon Coast, just an hour from our home in Corvallis. One more reason to love where I live!

The Oregon coast is very beautiful, and is one of my favorite places, too, though it’s been years since I last visited there. It sounds like you had a wonderful family weekend. Your processing gives these images a sort of old-time postcard feeling that suits them well.
I doubt the Oregon Coast looks much different from when you were here. There is something timeless about the places along highway 101. I was really trying to go for an old postcard feel with the processing, so I’m glad I succeeded!
The Oregon coast is beautiful. You took some gorgeous photos!
Thank you Terry!
I love this formula you’ve created and would love to have the ingredients!! Like “seabluelee” it is the old postcard look! LOVE! Makes me so look forward to my three weeks in your neck of the woods!
You will enjoy it! Be sure to stop at Heceta Head Lighthouse on your tour.
Gorgeous photos, Katrina, as always! I would love it if you could send me the formula! Thanks so much!
Sheila
Thank you Sheila! The formula should be in your inbox.
Beautiful pictures.
Did you know the Dutch coast line is a couple of hundreds of beautiful wide sand beaches?
We often go there for a couple of days in winter when the beaches are almost completely empty and you can walk for hours alone.
I’d love to have your formula.
TIA
Ron
I didn’t know that about the Dutch coast line! Sounds like a wonderful place. The formula is on its way!
I would love the formula you used on these photos.
The formula is on its way!! Have fun!
I love the vintage feel of these photos too! Beautiful shots! I love spending time on the coast 🙂
Thanks Lisa! There is something so wonderfully calming about being at the ocean, isn’t there?
Lovely images, they remind me of old postcards. I would really like to have your Heceta formula, so kind of you to offer to share it. You certainly live in a beautiful part of the country, it’s on my bucket list.
Love the tutorials and your many tips, thanks again.
So glad to hear you enjoy them Gilly. Definitely, you should get to Oregon some time! The formula is on its way to you…
These are stunning… I’d love to have the formula to play with.
Thank you. The formula is in the (e)mail! 🙂
All great photos.I think the Washburne beach is perfectly proportioned… I love the feel that I’m just arriving and it is the first breath of space,of view,of the silence of a beach…but I go to the beach to feel the vast expanse!
Great observation, the space leads you onto the beach. Thanks for your comment!
I love the look and feel of these. I too would like the formula. I use stackables but never seem to get quite what I see in others work.
It definitely takes practice to learn how to effectively use an app. Maybe I’ll give a little tutorial on that in the future!
Kat: I love your photos with all the space….I’ve learned so much from you!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Mary!
I would love the formula you used and the app you used. I just purchased the app and will use it when I get your recipe/formula.
Thanks
The formula is on its way to you via email! Enjoy it!
Kat, your email asked for comments on open space.
I believe it is only the negative space which allows us to perceive the positive as such. You can’t work with one without the other. The best way to emphasize a positive element may be to surround it with a negative element so it becomes more noticeable in contrast.
This also works in music. Rests or silence can be a powerful backdrop for stark melodic or vocal statements which might otherwise go unnoticed if surrounded by too much competing activity.
That’s the philosophical angle…
Back to photography or other visual art: the practical angle includes the point that negative space in photos allows them to be used more easily in commercial or illustrative settings, since the negative space can become a background for text.
Great comments, John! I don’t usually think of the practical angle of allowing space in a photograph, but I can see where that’s important.
I, too, would like your formula. With iPhoto I am able to edit my photos, but more tools would be great.
OK! It’s on its way to you. Please note it’s a formula for the Stackables app on mobile devices.
I would love your ‘formula’! Our son just moved out to McMinville last month (from Wisconsin!)… and they are loving it! (and i’m loving the gorgeous photos he’s posting!) Beautiful area for sure. Guess we’ll have to plan a l-o-n-g trip out someday!
Who prefers to walk on a crowded beach? Your photo of the beach is stunning!
Thank you William!
You really do have an eye on composing a photo
that brings the mood of the subject. Wonderful photos,
I would like you formula too. Thanks
have a great day
Thank you Rita! Come back and visit the blog post, I’ve updated it with a link to the formula and instructions.
Nicely done…………………… Having moved here almost 4 years ago I couldn’t agree with you more, about the culture and ambiance of being on, or living on the Central Oregon Coast.
Hey…………… someone has to live here, right?
Would love to play with your new formula………………. Vern
Lucky you, getting to live on the coast! The formula has proven so popular I’ve figured out a way for you to download and install it to your device. Come back and visit the blog post to get the link and instructions. Have fun!!
