Shelter. That’s what I see here.
In the chilly spring mist and rain, there is shelter here. The branches reach down to encircle and protect what’s below. The soft grass cushions the ground. The magical light filters through, bathing the scene in an otherworldly glow. I can stay here and be protected.
Hello, trees, I whisper, I’ve missed you. For me, you are hard to see when you put on your leaves. But this reminds me that your strength is still there beneath the summer finery.
And in addition to strength, you now offer shelter. Perhaps I need to sit beneath you for a while, and take what you offer.
The coming of the leaves has left me without one of my favorite subjects… bare trees. Oh, I haven’t missed them terribly. I love the sunny weather and the new growth of spring, so I’ve found many new things to photograph. Just not the trees, not quite as much. So it was kind of a surprise that a hike in inclement weather turned my eye back to the trees, revealing this month’s heart connection. It is kind of a surprise to realize that shelter is exactly what I need right now, as I try to remain in the space between. Shelter from my own self, if I’m truly honest, as my Photo-Heart Connection practice enables me to be.

I love this image and find myself drawn to it too. There’s something magical, mystical and protective about it.
I am a lover of trees also, but I’m celebrating the return of green leaves. I love the time of year when everything looks bright and new and I love the green light in the woods on cloudy spring days when it seems there is prana in the air.
My apologies – my link seems to have not worked exactly as it should – not sure why the photo is not showing AND there were other links on this post that disappeared when I added mine.
I love this post. Trees are very, very dear to my heart and I have to admit that I almost dread summer, when their bare bones are covered with leaves, when its difficult to see them individually, when their branches are covered in green. But I know that they are giving us their blessing with the shade they provide. Secretly however, I’ll be waiting for Autumn.
So…I’m not the only lover of trees with no leaves….seems I’m in really good company here. Shelter – no matter what form it takes – is such a rich blessing….though it can sometimes be a challenge to give ourselves over to its protection. This is really lovely.
Kat–This is absolutely GORGEOUS! I love the golden glow you’ve captured here all around the tree. Yes–Shelter and protection with that golden light. Thank you for sharing this.
jBeautiful! Mine is going up MOnday. Thanks so much for hosting.

Funny, but I just realized today how much I miss the bare trees, too! Photographing leafy green trees is very nice, but …. Still, I won’t complain!
Beautiful image, and lovely thoughts about shelter.
I love the direction you are taking with your photography. I can see the change in your heart.
love the light and the shape of the tree and the processing. wonderful quiet and magical atmosphere.
Trees. They so are speaking to you. Shelter. There’s a place I walk with my dog when the weather doesn’t co-operate-the path fully sheltered by trees. Never thought of it that way.
Thanks for hosting the PHC. I really enjoy it very much.
Beautiful photo! I love the shape of this tree and the light you found! Beautiful words to go with it, too! My swing is under a large oak tree and I always feel sheltered when I’m sitting in it’s shade.
Love your image here. I really get the feeling of shelter and safety from it. Love the other-worldly glow too. Great heart connection.
I love trees in all seasons of their lives. So much is hidden by summer’s leaves – when I lived in Maine, it was always a revelation to see the expansive views after the colorful autumn leaves fell.
This is such a beautiful image – that lone tree really stands out, isolated by the fog and standing apart from the forest in the background. It truly does convey “shelter.”
Oh… I love trees and bare branches too. Your image is gorgeous, the shape of the tree is amazing, well seen and beautifully captured. Thanks for hosting!
Truly beautiful and peaceful photo and beautiful words as well. Thank you for sharing Kat.
