Fascinations

There are a few surprising things that I have found interesting to capture since returning back to the USA. Newspaper boxes, mailboxes and parking meters. Lovely parking meters, like this set, all by themselves. Or parking meters with something else, like my scooter. I didn’t see these beauties in Italy, there was usually a box where you would pay down the street and print a receipt. That was boring. These are interesting.

The real voyage of discovery consists of not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.

Linking in to Texture Tuesday today. Here’s the recipe I used:
– First, adjusted levels and converted to sepia tone.
– Next, added Kim Klassen’s crackerjack texture, blended with soft light at 88%.
– Erased this layer over the parking meters.
– Finally, added the crackerjack texture again, rotating 180 degrees. Blended with soft light at 48%.

I knew it! They're alive and definitely chatting to one another until a customer comes along 🙂

Visiting from "Texture Tuesdays." I do adore your use of Crackerjack with the sepia tones. Lovely.

I love the elegance of your work, and you clearly know your way around the textures, too! Beautiful image.

These are becoming extinct in downtown Chicago, just as you described…pay at a box & get a printed receipt to put on your windshield. These have a character all their own and your processing brings them to life!!

Yes, phone booths are pretty much extinct and next will be parking meters. Thank goodness you are capturing them before they are all gone! Wonderful processing of your image!

I agree…it is interesting to come back to a place or visit a place and see the details or design of ordinary things in a new light…I love when that happens!

These ARE interesting…until you don't have the right coin and the meter reader comes along. Love how you processed this image Kat.

I've never seen them at two different angles before. Nice catch! 🙂

I love the simplicity of the shot and the toning/ texturing is perfect for a "out of time" feel.

Hi, Kat! I know you are home but I keep thinking of you being in Italy! I love these too and always grab a shot when I am in town. I never seem to be able to isolate them like this. It looks great!

I love the way that flipping the texture framed out the shot so well. These types of meters always remind me of going to the beach as a kid!
