While some of you live in places where you get tired of the snow in winter, I don’t live in one of those places. In the Willamette Valley of Oregon we rarely get snow. It’s mostly rain, rain, rain.
But on Sunday morning, we woke up to snow on the ground and big, fat flakes falling. I could not miss this photo opportunity, so my son and I went out and put fresh tracks in the snow. In a short while the snow stopped and the sun came out as a break in the clouds moved through, creating some lovely photo opportunities, like the one below.
The snow came and went for a day or two and now we are back to rain. Serious rain. This is a good thing, since we have had a very dry winter so far. Dry and clear is nice for the humans here in the winter, but not so good for the land. I don’t mind the rain right now, it’s been a while and I like the sound of the rain outside while I’m safe and warm inside.
Somehow though, it’s not as exciting or as magical as waking up to the world covered with a quiet blanket of snow.

I’m with you, Kat. There’s never enough snow here to satisfy me!! We’re having a strange winter. It’s was 60 degrees on Monday, woke up to 19 degrees this morning!! No snow, only beautiful sunshine to enjoy.
Lucky you! Enjoy that sunshine, however cold!
Lovely, lovely photo Kat. Ticks two of my passions – b&w photography and snow!
And maybe, but I’m not fully sure, it ticks off “dead things” too! 🙂 Thanks Angie.
You want snow? Come visit me. It will likely be April 15th before the last remnants of snow piles are gone.
I can imagine it’s rare appearance makes for great photo ops. Beautiful light and lines in the one you’ve shared. Hope the rain catches up on the drought and then shoots the sun out again for the humans.
I bet you have lots of snow, up there in the North! You probably haven’t seen a light dusting like this since, what, September? 🙂
I like the perspective of your shot, Kat. It often snows 10 months of the year here at altitude, but this year we aren’t getting major storms. Lots of wind, though!
I posted about the weather too…strange weather patterns so far this year. I guess we going to get your rain here in the Central Valley starting today. I am anxious for some snow in the mountains for photography purposes. Stay dry!
I always think the snow makes everything very pretty – I’m afraid we don’t usually get much snow either.
…doesn’t the big changes in weather get everyone’s tongues a-wagging?! A big storm rolling in and we’re filled with adrenalin; “I’ll be glad when this heat’s finished with” ——– “Geezuz; it’s FREEZING isn’t it?!!” “…had enough of the rain!” Loved your post and photos; I’m sure a little bit of snow was such a delight.
It is really funny, when you think of it, how often we talk about the weather, or complain about the weather, or wish about the weather. We can’t control it so we talk about it instead!
Oh yes – nothing like the transformational quality of snow. It makes everything look different.
I love to wake up to snow. There is something magical about the world being covered in a blanket of white. Today it was cold enough for snow but not a flake in sight.
Oh, too bad! You can have some of our rain, it’s still pouring down…
posted a link to your blog this evening… our topics were both related to the weather! snow! I’m envious!
We get very much the same kind of weather here and have also had a small amount of snow recently. I haven’t taken the camera out yet. I am thinking maybe this morning. We as suppose to get some sun though it doesn’t look promising yet.
We did get to see some Orcas right from shore the other day though and that was most exciting. I have told that story on my blog complete with photographs. It was a good day to be a photographer 🙂
I hope you didn’t miss the snow Terrill! Our snow turned to rain on Monday afternoon and hasn’t stopped. All sorts of terrible flooding going on… Lucky for you, catching those Orcas!
Hahaha, it is weird to me that the northwest is getting snow, and we haven’t had more than an inch of the white stuff in NY (except for our freak snow storm in Oct) The pictures and light are beautiful! I hope you are doing well, I sure miss talking to you guys everyday, xoxo
Miss you too April! That is weird, no snow for you guys. Since our snow we’ve had record rains, and lots of flooding! Crazy weather continues.
so glad to see this over at mm! beautiful!
xo
Thanks Christina! The one problem with setting the themes… I don’t get to muse on them – and I had the perfect photo op last weekend. Mosaic Muse saved the day!
These are just wonderful, Kat.
We are all still hoping for snow in these parts…x
