You can’t always get what you want…

You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
— Rolling Stones

I’m not a big Rolling Stones fan, but the chorus is running through my head on an infinite loop this morning.

You see, yesterday I went for a walk. It was a gorgeous day, and I took a walk around the little lake on the property where I work. Inspired by my Singapore lily pad images, I wanted to see what I could capture with the water. I desperately wanted to get closer to these lily pads, to get rid of all off the surrounding stuff, but without hip waders or a zoom lens that was not going to happen. Frustrated, I took a couple of frames with my iPhone and moved on.

I realized this morning: I couldn’t get what I wanted, but I got what I needed.

Beauty, peace, tranquility. The perfect image to edit and share today.

I hope you all have a great weekend! If you have a chance, come over and say hi to me and the Bhoomies today.

This is beautiful – so serene and peaceful. Love the olivey/yellow tones.

I love fresh awakenings…you were looking to create something but let go of the expectation and snapped what you could “anyway”. The fresh perspective is that what you captured was what you needed all along…proving that sometimes it really is okay to get rid of expectations. If we don’t, how would we ever know what else was possible! Love this Kat!

Wow, this is so serene and calming. Funny thing is that it looks perfectly peaceful to me. What I love about your work is that it always inspires me to pause for the moment. . . and breathe! Grateful that you’re sharing your lens of nature and beauty with the world.

Beautiful. I love the lily images you’ve been sharing. I think I said before they make me think Monet, but they also make me stop, and look and breathe and just enjoy.

Kat this image is so beautiful! I love that you sometimes “couldn’t get what I wanted, but I got what I needed” I have realised lately that my ‘best’ pictures are the ones I make because I just love them. I like what I see when I look through my lens. I tried and tried to make a particular picture over the weekend and just couldn’t ‘get it’ On my screen later in the day I saw the one…
    thank you for your inspiration.

I like that 2nd image. Guess finding the amazing blossoms wasn’t needed. Your processing brought out something different. Nice soft tones. I hear you on the hip waders. I’ve had wet toes at lily ponds more than once.

Kat, I just love LOVE these images! And, the synchronicity is striking. A couple of days ago, I had the exact same song going through my mind. Again, and again…So, I loved reading about your experience of it, and how it played itself out in your soul. Beautiful. Hugs from Toronto!
