I closed my eyes and asked: What does my heart have to say to me today?
My heart chose this photo.
A note found amongst the back alley texture and grunge. I was here, someone whispered through the handprints on the wall, Do you see me?
Yes, I answer, I see you. I document the moment with my camera. Arranging the shapes and lines and acknowledging the mark that someone else left. Perhaps some see the marks as defacing private property, but today I see a call for acknowledgement. See me, the handprints say.
How much, do I pass through my day, without seeing? How many people do I walk by, without acknowledging? It is easy for me to get focused, and miss the world around me. Miss the people who pass me every day.
See me, they whisper. I will try harder, I promise.
As I look for the Photo-Heart Connection, I am finding the message my photographs unlock inside of me depends on the day. I wrote from the heart with this same photograph earlier in the month, and the message was completely different.
I’m realizing that the process I am following to find my Photo-Heart Connection is not about the photos at all. It’s about opening the door to my heart, maybe just a crack, and seeing what comes out. The photos are the means, the conduit, to an end: The message from my heart.

I love those handprints on the wall, there’s something quite powerful about them. Gorgeous pick for this months Photo Heart Connection.
to me, the most fascinating part of the photo-heart connection is exactly what you talk about here…how one photo can create two completely different reactions. how cool that one photo allowed you the opportunity to take a deep look inside at your personal journey as an artist earlier in the month, and now has you thinking more outward about your connection with those around you.
this is just the coolest kat, and i truly appreciate your creating this space for others to find and share their photo-heart connections. 🙂
Kat, I liked this photo when you previously posted it but now with your story and your ‘I was here…’ sentiment – beautiful!
I like your PHC photo, and your interpretation of it “today”. I too find that oft there’s a shift in how an image speaks-saying one thing and then another. I do love those hands, but them saying do you see me-well that is profound and leads me to wonder whose voice that is, and if it could be your own. Or not. That’s none of my biz….
Thanks for having the PHC linky. I look forward to it each month.
I love it!!!!!!!
The combination of this image and your words really resonate with me.
I have to agree with Susan…just having this PHC to think about throughout the month has a very positive impact on what I do with my camera. Thanks, Kat, for creating this ‘project’.
A powerful image; a powerful heart connection. Thanks for the opportunity to share.
Hi Kat,
Thanks for the opportunity to share an image today at the PHC. The strength and design of your image is wonderful, which B&W certainly enhances. It interests me that people have been using their hand prints to note their presence since the days of painting/printing on caves. It’s an age old design motif and sign of – “Do you see me?” and “I am important!”. That’s a heart connection from the past!
I think it is interesting that the same photo can evoke different feelings & thoughts at different times. Thanks for this idea.
thanks for sharing, its a great reminder xx
I like this picture very much, special it is in black and white.
Wow! Such powerful thoughts and words…your photo draws me in then your words latch onto me. You make my mind whirl with images and connected thoughts.
When I read your words, your picture which was already powerful, became even more so. We do all need to be seen and heard. We live such busy lives that we forget the most important thing – the people around us. Thank you for such a great reminder.
Hi Kat, your comment about the same photo creating different feelings and connections resonates true with me. I think what I really love about meeting people through blogland is that most people are so genuine and we really see glimpses of each others true selves.
And what better place than through a Heart Connection!!
I see you.
Your photo is very powerful and your words really resonate with me. The messages from my photos are different everytime I go trough my files. Maybe bacause, we see the world as we are, but who we are change depending on our experiences…
Thanks!!
What an amazing insight Zena! That makes so much sense – our messages from the heart change as we change. So simple yet profound!
