I love open space. That’s no secret, huh? My art has lots of it…
It’s just a little weird when the empty space is where where my kitchen used to be…
Our kitchen remodel project started on Monday with demolition. We now have an empty room instead of a kitchen. It’s the beginning of the end of our kitchen story. Three months of waiting, now one month of construction to go.
Our refrigerator is in the garage, our sink is in the bathroom, and we’ve created a little kitchenette in the dining room. I see lots of microwave and crockpot meals, and likely takeout, in our future.
It will be exciting to see daily progress. I can’t wait to have a fully functional kitchen again!!

That looks like a nice big empty space to put a new kitchen in. And your temporary kitchenette looks very functional and so well organized. Inconvenient for the next few weeks, but all the sweeter when it’s finished.
It’s been a little inconvenient so far, but not as bad as I thought. It’s been exciting to come home to progress every day! So much better than the wait leading up to the actual remodel.
We did this three years ago. Unfortunately it took nearly three months to be finished, but I will admit, it was worth every moment of inconvenience. Every day I’m grateful for the beautiful, functional kitchen I have after 28 years of a sadly outdated, and cramped kitchen. (We added only 14 square feet for a new bay window, but the redesign bought me amazing amounts of new counter space!) Good luck; you’ll love it when it’s done.
Thank you for sharing your story, Karen! It helps to hear from someone who has done it before. We aren’t making any structural or layout changes, so that makes our remodel pretty simple. Thankfully!!
great way to look at trees and super lesson to learn too. Incredible images
